Last week we spoke about the difference between passion and purpose. As we continue this month’s discussion of purpose and planning, we going to dive into the hot topic of discovering your purpose.
If you’re like most women, if you aren’t clear about your purpose, once you hit the 40 mark, you’re drive to know becomes more important and can cause some women to become consumed. So let me put you at ease, because I can tell you right now what your purpose is—to love and to be loved. And it’s the same for all of us. It’s as simple as that. Now before you boo and hiss and throw rotten tomatoes at me, let me explain.
Our purpose is really just to love and be loved. Let’s face it, when we boil it all down and look back on our life at the end, it’s really about relationships. With that said, let’s call that our “Collective Purpose”, one we all share. But you’re probably feeling, like you want to know more about what you specifically should be doing—“Why am I here?”. And that drive is natural. We’re here in this life time to grow and evolve and we were born to this lifetime with certain attributes and characteristics unique to us.
In our Discover Your Core course we look at all these elements to help you discover what we will call our “Life Purpose”. If we look at both our unique characteristics of our soul and the gifts ad attributes we were given in this lifetime we can determine our “Life Purpose”. That’s why last week we discussed our passions and the difference between passion and purpose, because our passions are one of the key elements to help us discover our purpose.
So if we look at the basic formula of our Collective Purpose—Love + Being Loved, you see it is very balanced. There is an even give and take. We can see that a major component of our purpose includes being of service to others, and this includes people, community, and planet. The second half on the equation involves us receiving. So how we are of service and give to others should be equally balanced by us doing something we love to do. So for simplicity’s sake today, because we don’t have enough time to do a deep dive, let’s just look at our key element of passions. So get out your homework. You should have created a prioritized list of you top passions. I want you to take out a sheet of paper and draw a line down the middle so you have two columns. Then I want you to label the left column “Passions” and the right column “Service”. Then write your 3-5 passions in the left column. Now I want you to go one by one and brainstorm how you can use each passion to help others. How would you like to share that passion in a way that would help others?
For example, if I am passionate about horses, I could be of service to others by teaching horsemanship, rescuing abused horses, teaching leadership using horses, etc.
Do this for all 3-5 passions. Then go back and look for similarities in what you are both passionate about doing and how you can be of service. This will give you an excellent start in the process of discovering your purpose. And try not to stress because, you can’t get it wrong. Step back to our Collective Purpose of loving and being loved. If you follow that, there is no wrong way on how you manifest your life purpose and its an evolutionary process. As you live your purpose, you gain more and more clarity.
I hope this was helpful and stay turned for our upcoming courses about discovering your Core if you want to take a deeper dive into the discovery process.
Join me next week and we’ll continue our discussion on purpose and planning as we focus on creating a purpose driven plan. Until then remember—true wealth comes from within.
Let us know your discoveries on your purpose in the comments below. It helps when we all share in this process!
